No two North Texas suburbs are more dissimilar than Carrollton and Coppell. Boomtown Coppell boasts sprawling houses, first-class amenities and one of the region's most highly regarded school districts. Granddaddy Carrollton is an inner-ring suburb, its housing stock aging and schools passed over by those who can afford the bright-and-shiny of newer communities. Yet today Carrollton and Coppell are sister cities in tragedy, each having suffered deadly drug epidemics among their youth. Several years ago, it was heroin in Coppell; today it is fentanyl in Carrollton.
