Recently I was faced with a last-minute problem: I needed game balls for the Dallas Mustangs team I help coach with former Texas Ranger Bump Wills (who, as it happens, threw out the first pitch for Friday night's game against the Colorado Rockies). I did not give much thought to anything beyond when they would arrive. Thanks to the miracle of the International Inland Port of Dallas (see my previous column), I would get them the next day in plenty of time for a tournament. I knew, as do most internet shoppers, that neither the baseballs I was buying nor the company I was buying them from was in my living room when I clicked 'buy now.
